The 2011 Rotary Dream Home Lottery is raising funds for the Guelph General Hospital Medical Education Centre. This centre will provide leading-edge training for medical students and eventually encourage them to return as permanent physicians.

Where medical students train influences where they practice as physicians, and GGH wants to provide students with the facilities and equipment for a high quality experience through the Medical Education Centre. By making a lasting impression, the number of students who choose to return as practicing physicians will rise and maintain a strong healthcare support system for Guelph citizens.

In partnership with the McMaster Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and its Waterloo campus, the GGH Medical Education Centre will allow medical students to complete practical experience training, elective rotations, and residency placements in Guelph. Donations will build and furnish new learning facilities including a fully equipped video conference room, teaching aids, on-call sleep rooms, and a student lounge.

Guelph deserves the best physicians and health care system available. As the population ages and more physicians retire, it is important to continue recruiting skilled physicians for the future. The GGH Medical Education Centre will ensure Guelph is an attractive place for medical students to learn and for new physicians to work.
